How To Correctly Clean Eyelash Extensions

Want to know how to properly clean eyelash extensions and help them last longer? Who wouldn’t after lying down for 2 hours and paying over $200.00 to get them to put on!

Firstly, you will want to keep them clean to mask away bacteria, dirt and eye infections such as blepharitis which can cause premature lash loss. YIKES!

If you are a Lash Technician and have had any half decent training you will know the importance of keeping Eyelash Extensions clean and maintained. You have probably also heard the million dollar phrase from your clients as much as I have…

BUT WON’T MY EYELASH EXTENSIONS LAST LONGER IF I DON’T TOUCH THEM?

If only I had a dollar for every time I heard this one…

Aside from all the dirt and infections, our eyes are actually the oiliest part of our body, and as we all know OIL and LASHES are a big no-no!

There are many great eyelash extension oil-free cleansers on the market… But be aware, there are also a lot of so-called “oil-free eye cleansers” that have bi-products of oil in them and actually cause the eyelash extensions to shed prematurely (check out the Buff and Co Lash Professionals Eyelash Cleanser here).

So, here’s my step by step process of how to correctly clean your eyelash extensions…

  • Start by removing any excess face and eye makeup with your oil-free cleanser. Apply your cleanser neat (no water), and massage directly onto the skin. Emulsify then remove with a face washer and Luke warm water.
  • Repeat step 1
  • Use your cleanser and a soft brush or your hands to gently wash your eyelash extensions, showing extra care to the base near the eyelid. Thoroughly Rinse to remove.
  • Blot dry on paper towel or super gently with a face towel. DO NOT RUB.
  • Use a mascara wand to brush and fluff up your lashes so they are all neat and tidy. You can use a blow dryer on a cold setting to dry excess water if you desire.

Repeat this DAILY either morning or night (generally night time if you are needing to remove makeup at the end of the day)

Always give your client an aftercare sheet and their mascara wand to take home to help remind them of the importance to maintain their lashes in-between appointments. We can always tell a client who brushes from one who doesn’t!
